Food Focus: Natto

How fun does this look to eat? Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans and before you throw a chopstick at me for recommended soy, just listen up.

 

Natto is one of thee only soy foods I recommend because its fermented, which makes a big difference when it comes to the soybean. 

 

It's claim to fame is an enzyme called nattokinase, which can help reduce and prevent blood clots! It is great for keeping our blood flowing smoothly. There was a big study in Japan and the volunteers who ate just 200g of natto with breakfast was able to dissolve blood clots 48% faster!

 

Besides the vitamin K, this fermented soybean also contains a compound called polyglutamic acid, which is what makes it sticky. This acid naturally increases moisture in the skin. Hello, anti-aging.


This dish is an acquired taste (and smell), but trust me its worth it!
