Summer Book Club

July 9, 2019

I have always loved to read books. I guess the first I remember is the Baby Sitters Club which still holds up in today's world I'm sure. I moved on to novels, had a stent with pre-teen vampires and end of times games, and have most recently picked up every nutrition and entrepreneur book I've heard about.

Every single one of them has given me a nugget or two of information to help my life. Maybe a new morning habit, a keto coffee recipe, a reason to consider writing down weekly goals. Because there is so much information out there (and so many books to read), I thought I'd go through my office bookshelf and share which ones I think are totally worth adding to your summer reading list! #top12

Remember to head over to Green Mama Tribe on Facebook and weigh in on what you liked and learned!

The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John Maxwell

This book goes into the best biblical steps if you want to be a leader in your ministry, staff, team, family. Each law was an inspiration and I learned a ton about how to better lead my team of health coaches on our mental wellness mission.

The Mind-Gut Connection by Dr. Emeran Mayer

Have you ever stopped to think "Geez, Jes will not stop talking about gut health and what it has to do with our brains and everything else on earth. I wonder what her obsession is..." Well, wonder no more! Dr. Mayer who is on the scientific advisory board for the company I partnered with will wow you with his nutrition forefront knowledge of how our body and brain communicate and what it means for your health!

Ketotarian by Dr. Will Cole

I love a lot of things about keto and what it can do for our body, but the lack of vegetables in most plans left my mostly-vegan heart missing something. I used this book as a personal reset this January and love the real food recipes and tips!

Believe Bigger by Marshawn Evans Daniels

Wow. I had the absolute honor of hearing this lady of the Lord speak at a conference last July and having lunch with her afterwards. She is real, authentic and damn smart about what women need to hear to take their dreams to the next step.

Smart Women Finish Rich by David Bach

Is anyone as clueless about investments as I was before this book? If you are a woman, you need this book. David gives simple finance tips to ensure you are making great decisions for your future and for now. I learned a lot about a subject I had avoided for years.

In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan

I was fortunate to study under Michael at my nutrition school. He had a beautiful way of talking about health, wellness, food and culture. In a world where there are so many choices, he helps make it simple. I've used his rules throughout my personal life and coaching practice.

Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

If you have not yet listened to this girls podcast or signed up for her coaching, you are missing out! Both her books are a home run IMO, but Rachel will make you feel like you are her BFF and speaking directly to you in these pages. She helped me break some business barriers and stop caring about what people think!

Millionaire Success Habits by Dean Graziosi

Dean has been a recent favorite as he is often a guest on my top podcasts. My husband listened to this book on audio and said I would love the advice in it. He was right. Dean breaks down living our purpose in a way that brings prosperity. His story is inspiring and his habits will definitely change some mindsets!

The Kind Mama by Alicia Silverstone

No its not just because I am featured on page 83 or because it's written by one of my all-time favorite characters, Cher from Clueless. Ok maybe that's a part of it, but Alicia brought the joys of being a vegan into my life 10 years ago and I wanted to give back to her community by sharing my story of Ryan's health as a newborn because of the lifestyle I chose. This book isn't just for us modern hippies, its for anyone who wants to add more green into their lives - like all you mamas here!

Without Rival by Lisa Bevere

I have taught this book in small groups at my south Florida church over the past year, where many lightbulb moments happened across a room filled with women. Competition is the thief of all joy, ladies! Learn how to live with YOUR purpose, not someone else's! Grab a bunch of friends and read together.

Start with Why by Simon Sinek

If you want to make a move on your career, company, health, family, etc. you need to know you WHY! It's something I go over time and time again with my clients, and myself. Simon asks some tough questions to get you thinking about what your day really needs to look like to chase your dreams.

Unconventional Medicine by Chris Kresser

If I could sell this book door to door to every doctor in America, I would. Chris Kresser explains why our healthcare system needs to change NOW so we are promoting wellness instead of treating illness. He provides ways for conventional medicine practitioners to practice a functional medicine approach, as well as talks about the need for alternative therapies like health coaching in the office.
