Back to School with Immunity

This photo above shows how I used to feel several times a year without fail. Growing up, autumn was the worst for me so I always think about how to better boost my immunity when now my kids, not me, are going back to school. Palm Beach County, where I live, opened their doors for a new school year yesterday so what a better time to share what I have found to be our top immunity tips. My first grader had perfect attendance last year - not ONE sick day!

DAILY FOR PREVENTION:

Apple Cider Vinegar: Causes you body to be slightly alkaline, where germs cannot take hold. Once sick, ACV is great for helping soar throats (gargle or add to water) and for detoxing mucus. It also cleanses our lymph nodes. My favorite brand is Bragg's.

Elderberry: This syrup made from a delicious berry has antioxidants, cytokines and antiviral properties that can help prevent most illnesses. My kids take a TBSP each morning.

Vitamin C: We think OJ in times of illness, but skip the juice because of the sugar content. Instead go to dissolving tabs at the first sign of swollen glands, chewable tablets daily and an IV infusion when you know you are traveling or need to ensure your immunity is at its best.

Probiotics: 70-80% of our immune system resides in the gut so its the first place to keep healthy to prevent illness! Take a high quality pre/probiotic mix each day. I get my daily dose here: Amare Global

NutriFeron: This unique supplement by Shaklee increases levels of interferon, a protein released by our cells, usually in response to the entry of a virus. I have been using it for years with great results.

ONCE UNDED THE WEATHER:

Raw Garlic: Make sure your loved ones are out of your breath range when you mix up a tincture with this, but I'm telling you it's worth it! Garlic, when eaten or drank raw (blended with other boosters - check my Instagram for a soar throat magical drink) increases the rate at which your natural killer cells are made. It's a natural antibiotic and antiviral.

Ginger: Made in a tea, smoothie, juiced, as a shot or just eaten saw, this root is both antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and also helps with nausea.

Collidal Silver: This high-quality natural antibiotic holds onto oxygen molecules and surround the bacteria and virus. My favorite brand, Argentyn 23, comes in a dropper and spray as well.

Activated Charcoal: Like bentonite clay or diatomaceous earth, charcoal bind to chemicals and toxins to help remove them from the body so they’re not absorbed. It can bind effectively to bile salts in the GI tract, which may help clear bile-associated toxins from the body. Miracle for first signs of nausea or as a prevention if someone in your house has a stomach bug!

Another important thing to remember besides these remedies is that most prevention is done by eating well, exercising and keeping your levels of stress down. Most of the time I get sick when I have been in a stressful situation for a number of days and my body is screaming for a break. Take mind breaks at work, get outdoors as much as possible and keep moving!
