Most people think IV bags for dyer situations - mostly ER visits or other harsh health times. But have you ever thought of them as a preventative measure? Giving you the energy and nutrients you need to jump like this guy above into a serene lake surrounded by trees? You will now. Before I met Dr. Michelle Massa, I hadn't heard of Nutritional IV Therapy. The first time I went in to get one I was surprised that her room was full of people who already had and were implementing this therapy into their wellness routine.
Why? Here are just some of the therapeutic effects. Intravenous (IV) vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients can help boost immune function, increase energy levels, and help manage a variety of chronic health problems. IV nutrients are also powerful preventive and anti-aging therapies as discussed below.
The principle reason for nutritional IV therapy is to supply essential nutrients of normal body metabolism and those required for restoring balance (homeostasis) and the resolution of illness. When patients are acutely or chronically ill, they often may need a “jump-start” consisting of a high concentration of nutrients, 100% of which gets directly to our cells, to get them on the road to healing.
One chief reason for including IV nutrients in a clinical setting is the capacity to provide rapid symptom relief in a wide array of situations. When vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients are infused intravenously (IV) they go directly into your bloodstream to fuel your cells. That means they avoid the potential loss of potency and poor absorption in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract that is a characteristic of nutrients taken orally. This makes IV nutrient administration a powerful therapy for numerous health concerns (see below).
Even if you're healthy, IV administration of a wide range of vitamins and minerals is an extremely effective way to boost your nutritional status and prevent illness. Especially important when flu and nova virus epidemics are present, or before and during stressful situations. Dr. Massa explains that, "In my clinics I would often have attorneys 'prep' themselves physically before going into a trial with IV nutrients. People in the stressful world of show business have been doing IV nutrients for decades."
A number of nutrients play well-defined roles in the maintenance of a robust immune response, optimal energy, and overall health.
Magnesium: Many people are lacking in this essential mineral. Magnesium is an excellent therapy for patients with heart disease, respiratory problems, and more. It helps with arrhythmias and can arrest an acute asthma attack. IV magnesium is also beneficial if you have diabetes, as it improves insulin sensitivity, helps control blood sugar, and it is very relaxing. Something we could all use!
Vitamin C: Massive evidence has been compiled over the past 80 years of the significance of this vitamin in high doses. An excellent and detailed historical accounting is in the book by Dr. Thomas Levy, M.D. “Vitamin C: Infections, Diseases, and Toxins”. From infections to cancer, the evidence of its powerful influence is simply astonishing when administered IV and in doses far too high for oral intake. Add on to that the fact that it is entirely non-toxic even in very large doses.
Glutathione: This is the major super-antioxidant and detoxifying agent of our body. It cannot be taken orally but is made in the body. Whey protein and other amino acids can build glutathione in the body. It is severely depleted by mercury and chemicals. Many people exist with glutathione deficiency. However, it is made or compounded by special pharmacies for delivery intravenously.
When you receive treatment with IV nutrients, you sit comfortably while a sterile IV line is started and your specific composition of nutrients is infused. During this time, which usually lasts 20-60 minutes depending on the infusion you choose, you may read, chat with other patients, nap, or simply relax. A complete treatment course often requires a series of IV infusions.
Here's what other physicians have written about IV nutrient therapy:
Dr. Jonathan Wright, MD of the Tahoma Clinic noted the benefits in stating:
With oral supplements alone, it routinely takes considerably longer, often over a year. With the IV program, however, improvement is almost always substantial and quick, occurring in just two months.
Dr. Gaby, MD has administered over 10,000 nutritional IVs (modified Myers) and says this:
It has been the author's observation that some patients who receive a series of IV injections become progressively healthier. In these patients, the interval between treatments can be gradually increased, and eventually the injections are no longer necessary.
Other patients require regular injections for an indefinite period of time in order to control their medical problems.
What types of conditions are IV nutrient treatments used for?
Acute or Chronic Infection
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Viral and bacterial infections
So where is the only place I'll go? Where there is an integrative doctor overseeing what is in that bag! I have been doing IV therapy for about a year. My personal favorite when I feel that tickle is the immunity bag filled with high dose Vitamin C. I always got sick when traveling, but I went to Advanced Natural Medicine of Jupiter for a relaxing hour and flew with no issues last Christmas! These services come highly recommended (as do the nurses who administer!) from someone who also isn't too found of needles!
