Is Going Raw the Craziest Idea Ever?

4 Reasons that Convinced me to Just Do It.

Everywhere I go, everyone I see, everyone I work with asks me this exact question. And I won’t deny it, the question even runs through my own mind sometimes. I completely understand why everyone is so curious. Sure, for as long as we've been alive, dinners are usually cooked, lunches include sandwiches of some sort and just about everything on that sandwich has been cooked in some sort of way. Raw is not the normal. So why would I do this?

I can list quite a few reasons and I'm still not sure which was the actual deal breaker. As a mom of 2 boys and a wife to a husband who works 60 to 70 hours a week, as well as a business owner who also works at a smoothie shop a few days a week, I just couldn't bring myself to stand over a stove for another minute. But that wasn't the one that really pushed me to make this crazy change. Nope!

Does color mean anything? Sure it does! When you see beautiful colors on a plate, you just want to eat it all. And that sort of a color doesn't happen with cooked food. Even when it’s veggies and all clean healthy foods, it just isn't the same when cooked. Once they're cooked, steamed, roasted, boiled, their beautiful color seems to fade. But when you look at some raw veggies and fruit, they light up the room, your emotions, and most of all your eyes. It screams “eat me” and practically pulls you in. You just can't help but want to stuff your mouth. So yes this is another reason for my choice to go Raw. But this still is not the main reason!

Knowing the amazing nutrients in all of these raw fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds could be a super great reason to go raw. I mean, who doesn't want to be healthy and prevent high-risk diseases and conditions? Yes it sounds like a miracle, but we all know this doesn't usually make us jump out of our seats to change the way we eat. We keep thinking, “that will never happen to me.” Unfortunately, it easily can and this has been why I've made most of the lifestyle changes I have.

But the REAL reason I decided to step it up a notch and start following a raw diet is because I know how good I’ve felt doing it. Over the last five years, I've been going raw for a week every so often, mainly for detox purposes. Every time I did it, I would say how amazing I feel and how nice it would be to feel that way all the time. So, as I was scrolling through Instagram one day, one of my friends who follows a raw diet had posted an amazingly gorgeous picture of colorful fruits and veggies and without even contemplating, I decided it was time for me to do it and make this my lifestyle. And so it was…
